On March 2 and 3, BVZL held the summit meeting for life insurance policies in the secondary market with Management Circle, its cooperation partner of many years’ standing. The summit was held for the first time in the capital Berlin. In addition to speakers from the established secondary markets in Germany, Great Britain and the US, there was also one speaker from Japan and some experts discussing the topic of Sharia compliant financing structures. Furthermore, a well-known German actuary delivered an interesting lecture on longevity risks.
BVZL was particularly pleased about the fact that the GDV (Association of German Insurers) and the Federation of German Consumer Organisations (VZBV) participated in a panel discussion on the German secondary market for life insurance which took place in this combination for the first time. At the evening event staged in the Umspannwerk Ost, the BVZL journalism price was awarded for the second time in a relaxed atmosphere.

Following the Management Circle conference, a special BVZL US Life Settlement Day was held for the first time due to high demand from the US. Representatives of issuing houses, institutionals, medical experts and service providers met to discuss the current trends and problems in the market on the basis of partly provocative ideas expressed by Thomas Laumont, BVZL Executive Board, and Christian Seidl, Department Head.
The discussion was held in an open and constructive atmosphere. Based on the discussions, BVZL will develop and formulate concrete problem-solving approaches. The purpose is to initiate an ongoing open sector dialogue further promoting the asset class of US Life Settlements.
